Opera directed by Cécile Roussat and Julien Lubek
Music by Vincent Dumestre and Le Poème Harmonique
Costume creation for Aeneas performed by Henk Neven
Venue : Opéra Royal de Versailles, Opéra de Rouen
Aeneas is a Trojan prince from Virgile's Eneide, latin mythology. The two main characters Dido and Aeneas are meant to be opposed throughout the entire scenery in this revisited opera ; warm tones reminding Aeneas's journey, royal status and entourage, in contradiction with Dido's cold tones world and entourage, as she represents the Queen of Carthage, marine city. Throughout different elements of Aeneas's costume are inserted signs of power, noblety (velvet, silk, ottoman) and adventure (hunting, fur, leather).
