Shakespeare in red

This work is about Shakespeare's Shylock from The Merchant of Venice, questioning the duality of the character throughout his costume; how he is seen by others and how he sees himself. A contemporary touch consists in rethinking the way males at the time used to play female roles, as they weren't allowed to perform on stage. This male-role costume is made to be fit and be played by a woman. In order to restore a certain androgyny, this costume contains female clothing attributes such as a boned bodice, waist ruff, farthingale and skirt instead of reflecting an entire historical men's outfit.
